Low pressure moved into the Great Lakes late yesterday and overnight and is now transferring its energy to a new low along the Mid-Atlantic coast. This secondary low will track northeastward today.

Some cooler air aloft will be drawn into the new low, which should keep most of the precipitation today snow. A little rain mixing in is not out of the question, particularly this morning, but the chances for that are not very high.

The snow will fall steadily for much of the day, but with varying intensities. Some of the heavier snow will fall this morning, and then possibly again late this afternoon, just before coming to an end.

Even though it will snow much of the day, most areas will only pick up an additional inch or two. Some higher elevations may see a bit more.

Road conditions will likely vary, with treated, highly used roads possibly just staying wet for most of the day while rural, secondary roads may be sloppy.

Temperatures will rise a couple of degrees this morning into the mid 30s and should mostly hold steady through the daytime hours.

The widespread precipitation will end late this afternoon or very early in the evening. Some lingering flurries or spits of freezing drizzle will be possible overnight as temperatures fall into the mid 20s.

Winds will be light this morning but will increase from the northwest this afternoon. Wind speeds around 10 mph and gusts around 30 mph will be possible for a time. Lighter winds are expected this evening and overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: Early clouds with a mix of sun and clouds for the afternoon. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 30s.

Monday: Mostly cloudy. Evening rain showers. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.

Tuesday: Early rain showers turn to light snow. Morning temperatures in the low 40s. Afternoon temperatures falling to the mid 30s.

Wednesday: Maybe a few early flurries. Some late sun. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.
