Bailey Place Insurance is celebrating 165 years of business in the city of Cortland and the surrounding areas.

The agency, developed 50 years after the founding of Cortland County in 1808, planted its origin in downtown Cortland.

Throughout the agency’s rich 165-year history, it has always been locally-owned. The agency has provided jobs to local residents in the process while offering protection to friends and family.

Bailey Place Insurance moved into a variety of buildings throughout Main Street, but continued to conduct its agency in the downtown area of the Crown City.

The agency was originally located in the McNeil building. It moved above Dime Savings at 1 Main St., then 44 Main St. above Bentley’s Hardware Store shortly thereafter.

Bailey Place Insurance located itself in the first-floor building right in the middle of Main Street (now the Pita Gourmet restaurant) later on. The agency’s final stop is at its current location on the corner of Main Street and Groton Avenue.

In the past, the agency has been awarded the “Giving Network Agency of the Year” by Erie Insurance for outstanding community service. Bailey Place Insurance was also recently voted one of the “Best Places to Work” by the CNY Business Journal, along with the Finger Lakes’ favorite insurance agency two years-in-a-row.

Bailey Place Insurance recently made roof and exterior improvements to its location in Cortland. This was followed by interior renovations, including updated office spaces and a paperless work environment.

With the insurance industry constantly changing, and a commitment to Cortland County, Bailey Place Insurance is ready to help plan for each of their clients’ futures.
