A woman was arrested on Saturday for welfare fraud, according to a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report.

Melissa G. Wallace, 42 of the town of Willet, failed to disclose changes to her household that she’s required to report to the Cortland County Department of Social Services, the report stated.

Due to her failing to report her updated information and for submitting fraudulent paperwork, Wallace obtained $3,500 in benefits she was not entitled to receive, the report continued.

Wallace was charged with welfare fraud and grand larceny, each in the third degree and Class-D felonies. She was arraigned, released and now due to appear in Cortland city court on March 27.
