The Cortland varsity girls basketball squad is set for its first-ever trip to the New York state final four at the NYS Class B Tournament this weekend.

The Purple Tigers, ranked fourth in Class B in this week’s New York State Sportswriters Association poll, will go up against Section V’s Waterloo in the state semifinal round this Friday.

Cortland is coming off a 46-41 come-from-behind win over Section IV’s Newark Valley in the Class B regional final this past Saturday. The Cardinals were previously the top-ranked state team in Class B and undefeated.

Waterloo, ranked third in the state in Class B this week, defeated Section VI’s Depew in its regional final over the weekend.

The state semifinal matchup between Cortland and Waterloo is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Hudson Valley Community College. The winner of this game will move on to the Class B state championship at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at HVCC.
