Students, faculty and parents from the Cortland Enlarged City School District sent off the varsity girls basketball team on Thursday to this weekend’s New York State Class B final four at Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC).

The Purple Tigers are making their first-ever trip to the state semifinal round. Ranked fourth in Class B in this week’s New York State Sportswriters Association poll, Cortland will go up against Section V’s Waterloo at 10 a.m. Friday.

Cortland is coming off a 46-41 come-from-behind win over Section IV’s Newark Valley in the Class B regional final this past Saturday. The Cardinals previously sported an undefeated record and were the top-ranked state team in Class B.

Waterloo, ranked third in the state in Class B this week, defeated Section VI’s Depew in its regional final this past weekend.

The winner of the contest between Cortland and Waterloo will move on to the Class B state championship at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at HVCC.

This weekend’s games at HVCC are an all-digital ticketed event. To buy tickets online, click here.
