A chilly, breezy day is ahead for Cortland County behind a cold front last night.

Blustery west-northwest winds will blow throughout the day but will be strongest during the morning and early afternoon hours. Wind speeds will be between 15-20 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph.

These winds will kick up some lake effect snow, but most of it will stay well north of the county. Still, an occasional snow shower or brief burst will be possible, especially this morning.

Locally up to an inch may fall, but most areas will see no more than a light coating.

The cold winds will hold temperatures down with highs this afternoon in the mid and upper 20s. With the wind, it will feel like the 10s most of the day.

The wind will diminish late in the afternoon into the evening and will turn to the southwest after sunset. This wind shift will remove any lake moisture and mostly clear skies will result.

Temperatures will drop into the upper 10s and low 20s this evening, but the southwest winds will begin to move warmer air into the region, counterbalancing the nighttime cooling. Most of the night, temperatures will be steady.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Monday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the upper 10s.  Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and clouds. Morning lows in the upper 10s.  Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy. Morning lows in the mid 20s.  Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Thursday: Rain showers. Morning lows in the mid 30s.  Afternoon highs near 50.
