The McGraw Central School District Board of Education (BOE) gathered in the Elementary school cafeteria for its meeting this past Thursday.

During this meeting, students from the after-school tutoring program came in to show board members and community visitors the different learning strategies the group uses while in their classes.

Fourth graders Deacon Osborne, Ashtyn Pier, and Christy Tongue demonstrated their different learning skills by hosting different centers around the cafeteria. Each center had their own subject to display the learning techniques in. These subjects included Mathematics, English-Language Arts and Fine Motor.

Teachers Mrs. Frink and Mr. Dwyer facilitated the movement of the groups as the students instructed at their centers. There are many other students and staff members that are part of the program as well.

“I am extremely proud of the students that presented their learning to the board and the public present,” McGraw superintendent Melinda McCool said. “Not only did they show how their teachers are preparing them for learning that is rigorous, but they also demonstrated exceptional communication skills with their audience.”

This specific group of tutors meet after school two times a week, but there are several other after-school programming options in other grade levels as well.
