Clouds will be plentiful today, but precipitation scarce.

The pair of high pressure systems that have brought us sunshine for the first part of the week are departing to the east. In their place, influence from a weak low pressure over the Midwest will build east into our area.

This influence will be in the form of southerly winds and cloud cover. There will only be a very small chance for a stray rain shower late this afternoon and tonight.

The south winds will be light, with speeds mostly around 5 mph. A brief increase in wind speed will be possible this afternoon as a subtle boundary lifts north through the region. Top gusts on the day will be during that time and will clock in around 20-25 mph.

Temperatures will remain mild despite the clouds with highs into the low and mid 50s this afternoon.

Clouds and south winds will persist into the night, keeping temperatures elevated. Evening temperatures will be in the mid 40s with overnight lows around 40 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Thursday: Rain showers. Morning lows around 40.  Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy. Morning lows in the mid 20s.  Afternoon highs near 40.

Saturday: Some morning snow or ice possible before turning to rain. Morning lows near 30.  Afternoon highs near 40.

Sunday: Windy. A mix of sun and clouds. Morning lows in the low 30s.  Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.
