Today will be active in the weather as low pressure passes through the Great Lakes and into southeastern Canada.

Out ahead of the low, precipitation will move into Cortland County early this morning. At first, snow may fall before mixing with freezing rain. This will create some slick travel conditions through the morning hours.

Eventually, the precipitation will turn to rain as it moves out before midday. Total snow accumulations should be around or under and inch with a glaze of ice. Higher elevations have the best chance for seeing the ice.

During the midday and afternoon hours, occasional showers will pass through, but there will also be dry time. A few rumbles of thunder may even be possible late this afternoon or early this evening.

It will also be windy today, with southeast winds sustained at 15-20 mph. Top gusts, coming during the afternoon, will be around 45 mph, especially over higher elevations.

This could lead to some sporadic power outages, especially in areas that see some slight icing in the morning.

Temperatures will be in the mid and upper 30s most of the day but should rise to the low 40s for a time late in the afternoon or early in the evening.

After sunset, winds will turn to the southwest and calm some. Occasional showers will continue, with a few flurries possible after midnight as temperatures fall to the low and mid 30s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: Windy. Mostly cloudy until some late sun. Morning lows in the mid 30s.  Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Monday: Mostly cloudy. Morning lows in the mid 20s.  Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Tuesday: Cloudy with some late rain and/or snow. Morning lows in the mid 20s.  Afternoon highs in the low 40s.

Wednesday: Cloudy with a few early snow showers and a few stray rain showers during the day. Morning lows in the upper 20s.  Afternoon highs in the low 40s.
