Sentencing date set for Marathon man convicted of sex abuse

A Marathon man who was convicted in mid-March for sexual abuse-related charges now has a sentencing date in place, according to a Cortland County Court representative.

Mitchell L. Padbury, 63, was convicted on six counts and found guilty in county court on March 17 for committing sexual acts on a female victim close to a handful of times between September 2014 and March 2015.

Padbury was found guilty and convicted on the following charges, five of them being felonies and one being a misdemeanor:

  • Predatory sexual assault against a child
  • First-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, criminal sex act, incest and sexual abuse (total of four counts)
  • And endangering the welfare of a child

According to court documents, the female knew Padbury, and the incidents occurred in the city of Cortland and in the hamlet of McLean.

Padbury now has a sentencing date set for 10 a.m. June 1. He faces a sentencing anywhere between 20 years-to-life to 25-years-to-life in prison.

Padbury is currently being held at Cortland County Jail without bail.
