Most of today will be quiet and comfortably mild, but a late day cold front will change things in an instant.

Skies will start out with some sunshine this morning, but clouds will gradually fill in. Much of the afternoon will turn out cloudy, but without any precipitation until very late.

Southwest winds will build throughout the day as well, starting out around 5 mph this morning, then increasing to 10-15 mph for the afternoon.

Temperatures will rise to a high in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

Between 6-8 PM, a cold front will arrive with a sudden drop in temperature and onset of an intense snow squall. Temperatures will drop to the low and mid 30s almost instantly with heavy snow causing a brief period of near-zero visibility.

Moderate to heavy snow may last up to an hour behind the initial burst, leaving behind an inch or two of accumulation.

Travel will become hazardous with the low visibility and rapidly changing conditions. Be weather aware if you have to travel during this timeframe.

Scattered snow showers will persist behind the main area of snow during the evening and overnight hours with little to no additional accumulation.

Overnight temperatures will drop all the way to near 20 degrees. Northwest winds will blow at 10 mph through the night.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Thursday: Some early clouds. Otherwise, quite a bit of sunshine. Morning lows near 20.  Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with occasional rain showers, possibly starting as a little wet snow. Morning lows in the mid 20s.  Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Saturday: Windy with showers and possibly a few thunderstorms. Morning lows in the upper 40s.  Afternoon highs in the low 60s.
