Driver freed from vehicle after being trapped in van

Local firefighters freed an individual who was trapped in a van following a head-on collision with a dump truck on Wednesday, according to a report.

Units responded to the accident on Route 26 and Telephone Road in the town of Cincinnatus just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday. 

The Cincinnatus Fire Department, along with departments from Marathon and Willet, took almost an hour to release the driver from the van, Cincinnatus fire chief Mike Owen told The Cortland Voice on Thursday morning.

The driver of the van sustained serious injuries to his lower extremities, Owen said. He was transported to Upstate University Hospital via a Guthrie helicopter for further treatment. Details on the driver’s condition remain to be seen.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
