Another dramatic frontal passage will occur this afternoon, similar this past Wednesday evening’s front, but with severe thunderstorms and not intense snowfall.

Before the front arrives, a few morning showers will be possible as overnight rain associated with a warm front moves out of the region.

Sunshine will increase through the morning and continue into the afternoon. Meanwhile, southwest winds will increase to near 15 mph with gusts of 35-45 mph.

These winds, combined with the sunshine, will push temperatures into the mid 60s this afternoon.

Around or after 5 PM, the cold front will arrive with a sudden change in the weather.

Temperatures will drop fifteen to twenty degrees in a span of minutes. Strong winds will move in, likely just ahead of an intense band of rain, possibly with some thunder.

While thunder and lightning will only be isolated, severe thunderstorm watches and warnings are likely to be issued due to the potential for damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph.

Lighter rain will be possible behind the front as temperatures continue a slower drop through the 40s and into the 30s.

Rain showers will turn to snow showers during the evening and continue overnight. A coating to perhaps an inch of snow is possible.

By Sunday morning, temperatures will have fallen all the way to near 20 degrees. Northwest winds will blow throughout the night with gusts to 40 mph.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: A morning flurry. Then, sun and a few clouds. Morning lows near 20.  Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Monday: Clouds and some breaks of sun. A few scattered shower, especially late. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Tuesday: Scattered rain showers. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.

Wednesday: Clouds, some sun, and scattered showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.
