Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Baseball: McGraw vs. Otselic Valley

The McGraw Eagles lost to Otselic Valley with a close score of 3-4 Tuesday evening. With this loss, McGraw now holds a 4-2 record. 

McGraw was led by Thomas Lea (1 hit), Blair Mulcahy (1 run, 2 hits, 1 RBI & 2 strikeouts thrown), Calob Sutton (1 hit), Nathan Stiles (1 run & 1 hit), Blake Bergey (1 run), and Jaydon Bassett (7 strikeouts thrown).

Otselic Valley was led by Caleb Loomis (1 run), Lukas Schieferstein (1 run & 1 hit), Braeden Davis (1 run, 1 hit & 5 strikeouts thrown), Dakota Stairs (1 run), Craig Dubois (1 hit), and Avram Moses (2 strikeouts thrown).

Up next, McGraw will play at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Thursday (April 20th) at 5pm against DeRuyter.

The Cortland Lady Tigers improved to a 5-1 record after beating Syracuse on the road Tuesday afternoon. 

Cortland was led by Jadyn Willey (1 run), Sophie Mayer (4 runs & 2 hits), Brenna Hogan (2 runs, 3 hits, 2 RBI’s & 8 strikeouts thrown), Andrea West (3 runs, 2 hits & 3 RBI’s), Gracie-Jo Homza (1 run & 1 RBI), Kaitlyn Egolf (2 runs, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Lauren Mott (3 runs, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Molly Steve (1 run & 1 hit), Kaedyn Murphy (4 runs & 1 hit), Aliza McCormick (1 run & 1 RBI), and Danica Peck (1 run, 2 hits & 4 RBI’s). 

Syracuse was led by Aleysha Cancel Reyes (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Maria Thornton (1 RBI), Kylie Monaghan (1 run, 1 hit & 6 strikeouts thrown), Veronica Polhamus (1 hit & 1 RBI), Carli Norris (1 run), Taylor Sampson (1 run & 1 hit), and Selena Shenandoah (2 strikeouts thrown).

Cortland’s next game is scheduled to be played against Solvay at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Wednesday (April 19th) at 5pm.

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost a close game against Otselic Valley with a score of 13-15.

McGraw was led by Leah Terwilliger (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI’s), Josslyn Eaton (2 runs & 2 hits), Madison Sweeney (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Hannah Wilson (2 runs & 1 hit), Camdyn Caperton (2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Jaden Marshall (2 runs), Karissa Kulhman (1 hit), Haylee Bassett (2 RBI’s), Katelynn Millard (3 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), and Cassidy Will (13 strikeouts thrown).  

Otselic Valley was led by Paige Will (4 runs, 2 hits & 3 RBI’s), Miranda Hackett (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Abiana White (1 run & 1 RBI), Emma Rooker (1 run), McKenzie Reandeau (2 runs & 2 RBI’s), Riley Bartlett (2 runs & 1 hit), Cassidy Will (3 runs, 3 hits & 1 RBI), Tori Foster (2 hits), Carlie Golden (1 run & 1 RBI). 

With this loss, McGraw has fallen to an overall record of 1-3.

McGraw is now scheduled to host DeRuyter at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex this Thursday (April 20th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Softball: Cincinnatus vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions now hold a 2-1 record after losing their first game of the regular season against Stockbridge Valley with a score of 6-12.

Cincinnatus was led by Madison Stover (1 run & 1 hit), Kaylee Brenchley (1 run, 1 hit & 3 strikeouts thrown), Gabriella Taylor (1 run & 1 hit), Payton Gerrard (1 run & 2 strikeouts thrown), Jarisa Temple (1 run), and Piper Landers (1 run & 1 hit).

Note: stats for Stockbridge Valley were not made available by the time this article was written.  

Cincinnatus will now play Brookfield on the road this Friday (April 21st) at 4:30pm.

Varsity Softball: Marathon vs. Lansing

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost a tough game against Lansing with a final score of 7-16. 

“After 5 innings the score was 8-7,” said Marathon head coach Jamie Bush. “In the 6th inning, we gave up 8 runs and did not respond in our final at bat. Lansing hit the ball well, but we made a lot of errors and they all scored. At this level, a few errors in any inning leads to big innings and Lansing took full advantage tonight on our mistakes.”

With this loss, Marathon has fallen to an overall record of 1-4

The Homer Lady Trojans fell to a 1-5 record after losing 6-15 against Christian Brothers Academy at home on Tuesday. 

Homer was led by Maria Partis (3 goals), Eila Spanbauer (3 goals), Izzy Tutino (2 assists), Lilly Sorenson (1 assist), Caitlin McCloy (1 assist), and Aislynn Cobb (7 saves). 

CBA was led by Emily Jones (1 goal), Amelia Bonacci (1 goal & 2 assists), Sydney Vaughn (2 goals & 1 assist), Mia Kirch (1 goal & 4 assists), Maeve Mackenzie (6 goals), Lilah Kirch (4 goals & 1 assist), and Maddie Evans (6 saves).  

Up next, Homer will play on the road against Jordan-Elbridge on Tuesday (April 25th) at 6pm.

Cortland was led by Gabrielle Cranfield (4 goals), Sophia Souzas (2 goals), Valerosa Gambitta (2 goals), Francesca Smith (2 goals), Olivia Magin (1 goal & 2 assists), and Hayden Bulger (3 saves). 

Syracuse was led by Abigail Delaney (2 goals), Alayna Wood (5 goals), and Kiley Monroe (6 saves). 

Cortland is now scheduled to play on the road against Central Square this Thursday (April 20th) at 5:30pm.

The Cortland Tigers improved to a 4-3 record after winning with a score of 12-7 against Central Square Tuesday night. 

Cortland was led by Benjamin McGrath (5 goals), Finn Thomas (3 goals), Ryan Kline (3 goals), Jon Henry (1 goal), Bodey McGrath (1 assist), and Declan Vail (6 saves).  

Central Square was led by Nicholas Winks (4 goals & 2 assists), Evan Whewell (1 goal & 1 assist), Bradon Wolfe (1 goal), Aaron Bergquist (1 goal), and Kyle Waskiewicz (10 saves). 

Cortland’s next game will be played at home against Jamesville-Dewitt this Thursday (April 20th) at 7pm.

The Homer Trojans lost 8-13 against Christian Brothers Academy on the road Tuesday evening. With this result, Homer has fallen to a 2-5 overall record. 

Homer was led by Daniel Stiles (2 goals & 1 assist), Mitchell Riter (2 goals), Evan Butts (1 goal & 2 assists), Hunter Riehlman (1 goal & 1 assist), Reid Partis (1 goal & 1 assist), Alexander Votra (1 goal), Michael Stiles (1 assist), and Benjamin Bradshaw (9 saves). 

CBA was led by Andrew Kohlbrenner (6 goals & 1 assist), Joe Papa (3 goals & 3 assists), Jack Wichmann (2 goals), Jack Ludington (2 goals), Rico Petrosillo (1 assist), and Matt Craybas (12 saves).

Homer’s next game is scheduled to be played on the road against New Hartford on Friday (April 21st) at 5pm. 

Varsity Boys Golf: Marathon vs. Union Springs & Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians played against Union Springs and Southern Cayuga Tuesday afternoon. Marathon lost against Union Springs with a team score of 198-159, and won against Southern Cayuga with a score of 198-222. (Reminder: the lowest score in golf wins).
