A cold front will move through the region late this afternoon, ending the warm weather for the foreseeable future.

Ahead of this front, it will be another mild day, though not quite as hot as yesterday. Look for temperatures to rise quickly this morning, then stabilize in the low to perhaps mid 70s.

Skies will be cloudy throughout the day, but no rain is expected through the morning or early afternoon hours. In fact, the slow moving band of rain associated with the cold front may not make its way into Cortland County until 5 PM or later.

Once the rain moves in, it will fall for several hours and may come down hard at times, especially when it first begins. Rainfall amounts over a half-inch will be possible. A few rumbles of thunder can also not be ruled out.

Winds will pick up this morning from the southeast and become strong, peaking just before the rain arrives. Top wind speeds will be over 15 mph and gusts may reach as high as 45 mph. Once the rain starts, winds will turn to the southwest and drop significantly.

After the rain ends this evening, the rest of the nighttime hours should be quiet. Skies may even clear out for a time after midnight.

Temperatures will quickly fall into the 50s as the rain begins, then drop back to around 40 degrees overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: A few rain showers. Not as windy. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.

Monday: Clouds, some sun, and a few showers. Morning lows in the mid 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Tuesday: Clouds, some sun, and a few showers. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Wednesday: Another day of clouds, some sun, and a few showers. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the low 50s.
