A handful of Cortland varsity girls basketball players received nods for the New York State Sportswriters Association’s all-state teams for the 2022-23 season.

The Purple Tigers are coming off the most successful campaign in the program’s history. The squad finished with a program-best 21-5 record, captured the Section III Class B crown, made it to the state final four, and capped its season with No. 3 ranking in the state in Class B.

Valerosa Gambitta, one of Cortland’s standout guards, received a seventh team all-state selection. Her teammate, forward Kendall Mack, got the nod for eighth team all-state. Sisters Mallory and Claire Turner respectively received 11th team and honorable mention recognition. A breakdown of all the small school all-state selections are here. Large school selections are here.
