World Health Organization makes statement on COVID-19 pandemic; recap of numbers in the county

Here is a breakdown of recent COVID-19 numbers in Cortland County. It is based on recorded information from the Cortland County Health Department and the New York State Department of Health.

The World Health Organization (WHO) determined at a meeting on Friday that Covid is “now an established and ongoing health issue, which no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).”

The current level of COVID-19 transmission in the county is low. As of May 4, there have been 13,688 recorded positive cases (3 recorded since last weekend), around 950 hospitalizations (1 currently hospitalized) and 137 deaths in the county. 

According to the state, the current daily average of positive tests among county residents is 1.1%. The weekly average of cases per 100K is 0.9.

The recent percentage of county residents fully vaccinated that are 5 years-or-older is 61.4%. Additional numbers show that 61.2% of county residents are fully vaccinated with a booster shot.
