The Village of Homer plans to use funds from their roughly $166,000 allocation of state Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) to repave several residential streets in the village.

The village plans to use $150,623 from its 2023-2024 CHIPS allocation to grind up and repave Tobin Drive, Lora Lane, Maple Street, Holey Drive, Sunset Drive, and Selma Drive, according to village deputy mayor Patrick Clune.

“The paving schedule is kind of flexible. It’s dependent upon when we can actually get the equipment and when the weather is cooperating. Those are always variables that are on the table,” Clune said. “Unfortunately, we don’t have that ability to predict when the paving will take place. So we always try to give a heads up and notify residents of when their streets are going to be handled. Residents can anticipate that at some point this summer their street is going to be handled. We will put information out once we get closer. “

The village is reserving some of its CHIPS funding as a contingency.

“We are saving about $16,000 for reserve to buffer against the fluctuating prices,” Clune said.

Village board member Ed Finkbeiner said the streets amounted to about 21 miles.
