Temperatures will reach a high point today before sliding back for the weekend.

Southwest winds overnight have temperatures off to a warmer start today. This will help the afternoon temperatures achieve their warmest levels of the week.

Look for afternoon highs mainly around or just under 80 degrees. This is about 10-15 degrees above average for mid-May.

It would probably be even warmer today, but there will be two factors working against the warm air.

First, thin clouds this morning should coalesce into a deck of overcast. Some filtered sunshine will still make it through, but the morning will be noticeable sunnier.

Second, winds will turn to the northwest this morning and increase to around 5-10 mph.

Tonight, thin overcast will remain in place, holding evening temperatures around 60 degrees. The clouds may break up some after midnight, and overnight temperatures should end up in the mid 50s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Saturday: Sun mixing with occasional thin clouds. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with some filtered sun. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Monday: A mix of sun and mainly thin clouds. Morning lows near 40. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Tuesday: Sun and clouds. A few scattered showers. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 60s.
