Byrne Dairy recently announced a tentative opening date for its new 4,232-square-foot store in the city of Cortland.

According to Byrne Dairy vice president Christian Brunelle, the anticipated new store located at 224 Port Watson St. is tentatively scheduled to open around June 14.

The new store in Cortland will include four gas pumps and eight fuel stations, along with 25 parking spaces at the location.

Brunelle noted construction – which began last fall, has gone well so far. The store received its final piece of approval at the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals meeting last April.

“It’s been really good,” he said. “The city has been great to work with through the construction process.”

The store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. According to Brunelle, Byrne Dairy began the hiring process for the store, but is looking to hire more.

As Byrne Dairy’s new store on Port Watson gets closer to its grand opening, another one of its stores could close soon.

Byrne Dairy is looking to sell the building on 117 Groton Ave. that houses one of its convenience stores. According to the Howard Hanna Real Estate website, the selling price of the building is $299,000.

The Groton Avenue store, which has been in Cortland since 1970, could close around the time that the new Port Watson store opens, Brunelle said.

Brunelle noted the Groton Avenue property up for sale has drawn “a lot of interest.”

Further details on Byrne Dairy’s Groton Avenue store, or the new Port Watson Street store, remains to be seen.
