Homer Varsity Track & Field: OHSL Liberty League Large School Championships (Results & Photos Included)

The Homer Trojans competed in the OHSL Liberty League Large School Championships at Chittenango High School Monday afternoon.

According to Homer head coach George Schneider, athletes that finished first in their event earned First Team All-League Honors, and runners-up earned Second Team All-League Honors.

The Homer boys’ team ended up placing 6th overall, while the Homer girls’ team placed 4th overall.

Here are some highlights from Monday’s meet of both Homer boys’ and girls’ teams (all highlights were provided by Homer track & field coach George Schneider): 

Homer Boys

  • Jonah Campos won 1st place in the shot put event (Result - 42’6.75”). He also placed 3rd in the discus throw (Result - 111’2”)
  • Logan Darling won 1st place in the discus throw (Result - 126’3”). He also came in 5th place in the shot put event (Result - 38’3”). His discus throw was a personal best. 
  • Caleb Ficchi finished 2nd in the pole vault (Result - 9’0”)
  • Cooper Van Dee, Levi Guay, Anderson Lowell, and Gabe Austin placed 4th in the 4x100 meter relay (Time - 48.81)
  • Orion Bennett (2:24.9), Damian Brown (2:21.7), Colby Scanlon (2:27.5), and Matt Fish (2:24.9) finished 4th in the 4x800 meter relay (Time - 9:38.97)
  • Matt Fish came in 5th place in the pole vault (Result -  8’0”). He also placed 6th in the 800 meter run (Time - 2:24.66)
  • Gabe Austin placed 5th in the 200 meter run (Time - 25.09). His time was a personal best. 
  • Damian Brown placed 5th in the 3,200 meter run (Time - 12:04.66)
  • Garrett Berthelot finished 6th in the 110 meter hurdles (Time - 22.28). His time was a personal best. 
  • Liam O’Brien placed 6th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (Time - 13:05.1)
  • Oliver Kida (59.7), Levi Guay (59.8), Anderson Lowell (59.8), and Cooper Van Dee (57.0) came in 6th in the 4x400 meter relay (Time - 3:55.40).
  • Dylan Pittsley recorded a personal best long jump (Result - 17’0”), which qualifies him for Sectionals.

Homer Girls

  • Ingrid Aagaard came in 2nd in the 800 meter run (Time - 2:24.45). She also placed 3rd in the 100 meter run (Time - 13.75). Her 800 meter run time was a personal best, and qualified her for the State Qualifier. 
  • Camdym Cole placed 2nd in the long jump (Result - 16’1”).  She also came in 4th place in the triple jump (Result - 31’8.25”). Her long jump performance was a personal best.
  • Natalie Funk, Camdyn Cole, Jane Gugerty, and Ingrid Aagaard placed 2nd in the 4x100 meter relay (Time - 52.97).  Their time qualifies them for the state qualifier
  • Amelia Wagner finished 2nd in the steeplechase (Time - 9:24.4)
  • Hannah Bouwens placed 3rd in the shot put event (Result - 27’5.5”). She also placed 6th in the discus throw (Result - 67’5”). Her shot put throw was a personal best and qualifies her for sectionals
  • Haley Tucker (2:59.1), Mia Knight (2:52.3), Amelia Wagner (3:04.2), and Lydia Andre (2:55.7) placed 4th in the 4x800 meter relay (Time - 11:51.26)
  • Natalie Funk (71.5), Maliyah Parente (72.2), Jane Gugerty (67.7), and Ingrid Aagaard (65.9) finished 4th in the 4x400 meter relay (Time - 4:37.32)

 

Up next, the Trojans will participate in the Cicero-North Syracuse Invitational at Cicero-North Syracuse high school this Friday (May 19th) at 4:30pm. This will be Homer’s last meet before the sectional championships.
