Cortland’s season ends in extra innings

The No.4 seeded Cortland Purple Tigers lost against No.9 seeded Skaneateles in an extra innings thriller Saturday afternoon at Onondaga Community College. With their seasons at stake, both teams knew that the winner would advance to the Section III Class B finals. 

Cortland lost the game with a final score of 9-10, with 11 innings played.  

Cortland trailed 1-5 before tying the game to send it to extra innings. 

It was a battle from then on, with Skaneateles scoring three runs at the top of the eight. Cortland answered right back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend the game even further. 

In the eleventh inning, Skaneateles drove two runs home and Cortland was only able to answer back with one run.

Cortland was led by Ethan Johnson (2 runs, 3 hits & 3 RBI’s), Caden Albright (2 runs, 4 hits & 1 RBI), Cal Albright (2 runs, 3 hits & 1 RBI), Andrew Partigianoni (2 hits & 3 RBI’s), Danny Jackson (2 runs & 1 hit), Tyler Gilbert (1 run & 1 hit), and Luke Rogoff (1 RBI)

Skaneateles was led by Patrick Herr (2 runs, 3 hits & 2 RBI’s), Chad Lowe (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Carter Corbett (4 runs & 1 hit), Hugh Carroll (2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Keelan Marren (1 run & 1 RBI), and Cal Anna (1 run & 1 hit). 

Cortland pitchers Ethan Johnson (5 strikeouts), Owen Johnson (5 strikeouts), and Zach Muir (2 strikeouts) combined for a total of 12 strikeouts thrown in the game; while Skaneateles pitchers Cade Lamphere (7 strikeouts) and Ben Underhill (3 strikeouts) combined for 10 strikeouts thrown. 

Cortland ended their season with an overall record of 15-7. 

Skaneateles will play in the sectional championships against No.3 seeded Cazenovia at Onondaga Community College on today (Monday, May 29th) at 3pm.
