The Cortland Varsity Track & Field team competed in the Section III Division II state qualifiers on Thursday (June 1st).

Junior Jack Phelan placed 2nd overall in the triple jump event after recording a jump of 42'11.50". Amir Taylor of Syracuse Academy of Science won 1st place after jumping a personal record of 44’1.25”.

According to Cortland coach Luke Schweider, the team got a call Saturday morning saying that Taylor will not be attending the state championship meet. Because of this, Phelan will now represent Cortland as well as Section III Division II in the triple jump event at the state championships in Taylor’s place.

The New York State Championship meet is scheduled to take place at Middletown High School on Friday (June 9th) and Saturday (June 10th). Click here for more information on the state championship meet.
