The Cortlandville town board is set to store two defibrillators at parks in town to help first responder crews respond to emergencies promptly.

The town board unanimously approved the purchasing of two automatic external defibrillators, purchased from Advantage Emergency Devices for $6,710.

The defibrillators will be placed at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex and Ted Testa Park.

“They are all over the place,” Williams said. “There’s one in town hall right outside the employee entrance at the town hall and another one down the hall. They've been requested and we do not have one at either of our two major parks.”

Cortland County Deputy Fire Coordinator Kevin Whitney, chimed in on the matter. He noted in a message supporting the town’s decision to purchase the defibrillators,

“Very important life saving devices we hope to never use but they truly do save lives,” he said through the online meeting’s chat function.

Williams noted it was important for the town and first responders to have the same models of defibrillators across the board.

“It was very important that the defibrillators in the town, the ones that the fire department has, are all the same type, the same brand, the same operating system,” Williams added. “So that if needed, a fireman can grab any one of them or anybody else can grab any one of them and they’re all going to be pretty much the same.”
