Low pressure is meandering northward into the Mid-Atlantic region today, displacing the high pressure that has been struggling to keep a hold on our region.

An area of rain showers will move north into the region as this occurs. The rain will be most likely in the late morning and early afternoon hours before dry air from the high dissipates the showers.

How much rain falls, and for how long, is still a bit uncertain due to the interplay of high and low pressure systems and their associated dry and moist air masses.

It is safe to expect at least a few showers if not some periods of steadier light rain.

There will not be much in the way of sunshine today. Even as the rain showers dissipate, new clouds will spiral northward into the region. These clouds will persist into the nighttime hours, with a few more waves of showers during the overnight period.

Temperatures will be held in check today with the clouds and a light east-southeast wind. Afternoon highs will only be around 70 degrees.

However, tonight will be mild, with evening temperatures sticking to the 60s and overnight lows in the upper 50s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Friday: Mostly cloudy with some morning showers and scattered afternoon and evening rain and thunder. Morning lows in the upper 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Sunday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs around 80.

Monday: Sun and clouds. A few scattered thunderstorms possible. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs around or just over 80.
