A local man is facing charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a minor and touched the minor’s private parts.
According to documents from Cortland County Court, Jerry L. Smith, 46, touched a minor’s private parts and slapped the minor’s buttocks with his hand in April 2022 at a residence in the town of Freetown.
Court docs stated that the minor is under 17 years of age. Documents noted that the minor did not give Smith consent at any time to touch the minor.
Smith has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse (a Class-D Felony) and endangering the welfare of a child (a Class-A Misdemeanor).
According to a representative at county court, Smith and his defense attorney have until July 24 to file an omnibus motion. The district attorney’s office has an Aug. 7 deadline to respond.
