Waves of atmospheric energy will pass through the region today bringing bouts of rain and thundery downpours.

One such wave is moving through early this morning. Rain will depart early this morning, though a few showers could linger into the mid-morning hours.

There will be a lull in the precipitation for the late morning and early afternoon. Sunshine will be rare, though, with plenty of cloud cover in place.

Rain and thunderstorms will build back into the region for the mid and especially late afternoon. The amount of lightning should be limited and severe weather is not expected.

However, the atmosphere is laden with moisture, and downpours will be capable of torrential rainfall rates. This could lead to some localized flooding issues in poor drainage areas and along smaller streams.

There should be a decrease in rain and thunder during the evening, but it will probably not totally end. Scattered showers will continue through the overnight.

Winds will be light, coming from the south with speeds under 5 mph.

Afternoon highs will be in the mid to perhaps upper 70s. Dewpoints will be very muggy at around 70 degrees. Evening temperatures will drop through the 70s and overnight lows should end up in the mid 60s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Monday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs near 80.

Tuesday: Scattered showers, especially early. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 80s.

Thursday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid and upper 80s.
