A tractor trailer veered off the side of the road on Interstate-81 southbound in Cortland County, according to a report.
The New York State Police report stated that officers responded to I-81 southbound in the town of Lapeer for a tractor trailer that “exited the roadway” during the early-morning hours of Thursday (Aug. 17).
According to the report, the driver, a 56-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Binghamton for non-life threatening injuries.
The tractor trailer itself was empty, but the report noted the fuel tank was “ruptured” and spilled about 60 gallons of fuel. Members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU), along with the state department of environmental conservation (DEC), responded to the scene.
Further details on the fuel spill remain to be seen.
