Taylor resident faces sex abuse allegations (Cortland County Sheriff’s Blotter)

A Town of Taylor man is facing sex abuse allegations, according to a report.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office received a report of sex abuse allegations that occurred between 2021 and 2023 at an undisclosed location in Taylor.

According to the report, Michael A. Demott, 56, allegedly attempted to subject a victim to inappropriate contact on several occasions in the noted time period. The victim knows Demott, the report noted.

Demott was arrested on Sept. 16 and charged with first-degree attempted sex abuse (a Class-E Felony), second-degree attempted sex abuse (a Class-B Misdemeanor), third-degree attempted sex abuse (a misdemeanor) and endangering the welfare of a child (a Class-A Misdemeanor).

Demott was arraigned and released. He is due to appear in court at a later date.

Amy L. Barber

Barber, 39 of Cortland, was arrested on Tuesday (Sept. 19).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Barber allegedly stole merchandise from the Walmart store in the town of Cortlandville. 

Barber was charged with petit larceny, a Class-A Misdemeanor. She is due to appear in Cortlandville town court on Oct. 2.
