Woman allegedly ‘fails to protect’ victim from attempted sex abuse (County Sheriff)

A woman was arrested late last week after she allegedly “failed to protect” a victim from attempted sexual abuse, according to a report.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report stated that the department received sex abuse allegations that occurred between 2021 and 2023 at an undisclosed location in the town of Taylor.

According to the report, Cheri L. Demott, 54, was arrested on Saturday (Sept. 23) for allegedly “failing to protect” the victim from attempted sex abuse.

Demott was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a Class-A Misdemeanor. She was arraigned, released and now due to appear in Taylor town court on Oct. 18.
