Closures announced for this week in Cortland

Specific closures have been announced for this week in the city of Cortland.

“A reminder that areas posted for local traffic only are active construction zones and thru traffic should utilize all posted detour routes,” according to a recent update from Crown City Rising. “Please be safe while traveling in or near active construction zones and be aware that streets may be closed for short term needs.”

Below are updates for construction projects across the city.

Groton Avenue

According to Crown City Rising, the west entrance to the Groton Avenue parking lot, but the east entrance is open. Traffic can access the lot from Main Street and Clinton Avenue, as well as Orchard Street.

Crews on Groton Avenue on Tuesday continued with installation of new sanitary sewer mains. Also on Monday, construction crews are installing a new manhole at the intersection of Monroe Heights. With this project currently underway, access to Groton Avenue from Monroe Heights will be closed on Monday.

Main Street

Today (Oct. 10), construction crews are installing storm sewer lines on the east side of Main Street between Court Street and Central Avenue. 

Central Avenue at the Main Street intersection will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon on Wednesday (Oct. 11). On Wednesday, crews will begin work to relocate natural gas lines on Central Avenue.

The closure of Central Avenue could be extended further into this week. Additional updates and information will be provided once it has been received.

Other Projects

Work is underway to replace granite curbs on Grant Street before paving takes place. This could include alternating lane closures.
