The Marathon Lady Olympians won 53-40 against Bainbridge-Guildford at their season opener at Marathon high school Wednesday night.

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign (22 points), Anna Hoyt (11 points), and Addison Oram (10 points).

Bainbridge-Guildford was led by Peyton Umbra (12 points) and Marissa Mayo (9 points).

“We applied a very aggressive press that led to some turnovers and easy buckets on our end,” said Marathon head coach Beth Anne Duncan. “Eventually Bainbridge-Guildford took advantage of that and broke it quickly to make some lay ups of their own. We really buckled down in the fourth quarter, and allowed Bainbridge-Guildford only 5 points.”

“The fourth quarter ended up being the difference maker in the game, and helped us pull away,” added coach Duncan. “We had a solid night from our leaders, Abby, Anna and Addison all in double digits. Great team effort across the board.”

The 1-0 Lady Olympians will look forward to playing at Marathon high school on Friday (December 1st) against Whitney Point. Tip off is at 7:15pm.

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles lost 4-2 against CNY Fusion at the State Fair Coliseum. With this loss, Cortland-Homer started their season off with a 0-1 record.

We just didn’t get any puck luck tonight. If we can play hard like that and keep improving, there is a lot to build on from tonight.”

CNY Fusion was led by Reilly Bizgia (1 goal & 1 assist), Andrew Gabor (1 goal & 1 assist), Daniel Devendorf (1 goal), Gavin Rodman (1 goal), Calen Brown (1 assist), Will Burns (1 assist), Alex Kirkby (1 assist), and Trevor Smith (27 saves).
