The New York State Police is seeking public assistance on identifying two individuals who used fake $100 bills at a local store.

According to a report from State Police, two unidentified black male individuals purchased a $500 gift card at the Dollar General store on West Main Street in the village of Marathon around 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 30.

The report stated that the individuals used five fake $100 bills to purchase the gift card. The fake bills closely resemble real bills, but missed some security features. The report added that the male individuals spent about three minutes in the store before leaving in a dark-colored sedan with what appeared to be a white license plate.

At the time of the incident, State Police described one male individual as wearing torn blue jeans, a black belt, a black sweatshirt and black shoes. He also had short black hair and a black beard.

The other male individual had longer black hair. He was wearing a baseball cap, a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants and black/gold shoes, as described by State Police.

Anyone with information on the male subjects are asked to contact State Police at 607-561-7400.
