Marathon Olympians beat Groton in consolation game (photos included)

The Marathon Olympians won 56-36 against Groton in the consolation game of the Tom Neugebauer holiday tournament at Cortland junior-senior high school Friday evening. 

The Olympians took control of the game early after getting a 29-11 lead at halftime. 

“After a loss, I thought we would be deflated, but they (Marathon players) came out ready to rumble,” said Marathon head coach Jim Holland. “I thought that showed that we had a little bit of character.”

The Olympians did not let off the gas pedal in the second half, and obtained a 46-20 lead at the end of the third quarter, putting the game out of reach for Groton. 

Marathon was led by Bryce Hartman (14 points),  Zachary Birdsall (12 points), Camdyn Kashuba (11 points), Jacob Byron (7 points), and Bode Carter (7 points). 

Groton was led by Trenton Walker (9 points), Dom Mackey (7 points), and Conor Eldred (5 points)

With this result, Marathon improved to a 4-5 overall record. 

Marathon’s next game will be played on Friday (January 5th) on the road against Spencer-Van Etten at 7:45pm.
