The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office announced that an arrest was made in regard to the fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred in the town of Solon on Dec. 27.

A county sheriff’s report stated that an accident involving one car took place on Stillwell Road in the town of Solon. Two individuals in the vehicle were traveling north on Stillwell Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway and striking the tree.

One person died at the scene. The other occupant, Isaac D. Faircloth, had his injuries treated at the Upstate Medical Center and was later released.

While on scene of the accident, Faircloth “obstructed” the investigation and was in possession of a stolen credit card, the report noted. It was also discovered that Faircloth violated a full stay-away order of protection in Cortland.

The name of the deceased individual in the accident was not available at the time of publication. The report noted that the investigation has not “determined a positive identification” of the deceased individual.

Faircloth was charged with second-degree criminal contempt (for violating the order of protection), fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.

Faircloth was arraigned and sent to Cortland County Jail on a $500 cash bail and $1,000 bond. He is due to appear in Cortland City Court on Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. and Solon town court at 6 p.m. Jan. 10.

Further details surrounding the Dec. 27 car accident have yet to be determined.

The investigation is still ongoing. People with any information are asked to contact the county sheriff's criminal investigation division at 607-758-6151.
