Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 9th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Manlius Pebble Hill (Sectional Quarterfinals)

The No.1 seeded Cincinnatus Lady Lions defeated No.9 seed Manlius Pebble Hill (MPH) in the quarterfinal round of the Section III Class D playoff tournament Friday night. Cincinnatus won the match in three straight sets at Cincinnatus high school. 

Not only did the Lady Lions get the win, but they also celebrated Allyson St.Germain’s 500th career kill.

Up next, Cincinnatus is scheduled to host the semifinal round of the sectional tournament at Cincinnatus high school on Tuesday (February 13th) at 6pm. The Lady Lions will play the winner of the match between No.4 seed Old Forge and No.5 seed Stockbridge Valley.

The Cortland Lady Tigers celebrated a successful senior night with a 63-18 win over Norwich Friday night. With this win, Cortland improved to an overall record of 17-1.

Cortland’s next game will be played at home against Skaneateles this upcoming Monday (February 12th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Solvay

The Cincinnatus girls basketball team lost against Solvay on the road Friday night with a score of 47-28. With this loss, Cincinnatus has fallen to an overall record of 5-12. 

Cincinnatus was led by Cortney Scutt (14 points), Rachael Standish (6 points), Lydia Scutt (5 points), Camryn Crothers (2 points), and Sidney Glover (1 point). 

Solvay was led by Neonna Turk (17 points), Janiya Walters (11 points), Ciara Togni (8 points), Shay'Eanna Turk (7 points), Alivia Orr (2 points), and Veah Burke (2 points). 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be played on the road this upcoming Monday (February 12th) against Stockbridge Valley. Tip off is at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Cazenovia

The Homer Trojans fell to an overall record of 8-9 after losing to Cazenovia in overtime Friday night with a score of 61-57. 

Homer was led by Wyatt Wilbur (26 points), Max Franco (13 points), Kaden Durham (9 points), Mitchell Earle (5 points), Tyler Van Etten (3 points), and Daniel Hartnett (1 point). 

Cazenovia was led by Ben Bianco (20 points), Edmond Richardson (16 points), Tanner Lawson (15 points), Izaak Gilbert (8 points), and Alex Kuper (2 points). 

Homer is scheduled to host Susquehanna Valley at Homer high school on Tuesday (February 13th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Olympians lost 80-45 against Moravia on the road Friday night, making them fall to an overall record of 9-10. 

Marathon was led by Jacob Byron (22 points), Zachary Birdsall (11 points), Blake Birdsall (6 points), Austin Poth (4 points), and Camdyn Kashuba (2 points).

Moravia was led by Abram Wasileski (18 points), Kyler Proper (14 points), Drew Nye (13 points), Jackson Hares-ryan (12 points), Logan Bell (7 points), Will Hess (6 points), Aiden Kelly (5 points), Thomas Palmer (3 points), and Westin Walker (2 points).

Up next, Marathon will play on the road against Edmeston Central on Monday (February 12th) at 7:15pm.
