Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (April 25th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Baseball: Cortland vs. Adirondack & Elmira Heights

The Cortland Purple Tigers played a double header in the “PBR Diamond Series” on Thursday at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex. 

Cortland won both of their games against Adirondack and Elmira Heights. 

Cortland beat Adirondack with a score of 13-0, and defeated Elmira Heights with a score of 17-7. 

With these two wins, Cortland improved to an overall record of 9-3. 

Here are the score breakdowns and stats from each of Cortland’s game:

Game 1

Cortland was led by Zach Muir (2 total runs, 1 homerun, 1 hit & 4 RBI’s), Cal Albright (2 runs, 3 hits, 2 RBI’s & 3 strikeouts thrown), Caden Albright (3 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Danny Jackson (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Robbie Atkins (1 run, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Jaheim Robinson (1 run & 1 hit), Owen Johnson (1 run & 1 hit), and Antonio Terrazas (1 run & 3 strikeouts thrown).

Adirondack was led by Maxim Weiler (1 hit & 2 strikeouts thrown), Alexander Kaun (1 hit), and Jeremiah Reed (1 hit).

Game 2

Cortland was led by Caden Albright (2 runs, 3 hits & 3 RBI’s), Ethan Johnson (3 runs, 2 hits, 1 RBI & 5 strikeouts thrown), Cal Albright (4 runs & 1 hit), Danny Jackson (1 run, 1 hit & 3 RBI’s), Mason Kurtz (1 run, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Connor Browngardt (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Robbie Atkins (1 run & 1 hit), Owen Johnson (1 run & 1 hit), Jaheim Robinson (1 run & 1 hit), Zach Muir (1 run, 1 hit & 4 strikeouts thrown), Carter Urtz (1 hit & 1 RBI), and Sean Rogoff (2 strikeouts thrown).

Elmira Heights was led by Andrew Slaven (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI & 1 strikeout thrown), Dylan Beam (1 run, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Cullen Mawhir (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Nikolai Cheplick (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Thomas Cheplick (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Blake Cobb (2 runs), Jace Shiller (1 hit), and Caden Southard (1 strikeout thrown). 

According to Cortland’s athletic website, their next game will be played at the NBT Stadium against Mexico on Tuesday (April 30th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Baseball: Marathon vs. Union Springs

The Marathon Olympians lost both games of a double-header against Union Springs on the road on Thursday. 

Marathon lost the first game 12-2 and the second game 14-4. With these two losses, Marathon now holds a 2-7 record.

Game 1

Marathon was led by Tucker Trabucco (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Zachary Birdsall (1 run & 1 hit), Camdyn Kashuba (1 hit & 3 strikeouts thrown), Gabriel Spizzirri (1 hit), Daniel Merihew (2 strikeouts thrown), and Aidan Courtney (2 strikeouts thrown). 

Union Springs was led by Asa Brown (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Jack Walters (1 run, 1 hit & 3 RBI’s), Aaron Johnson (2 runs & 1 hit), Alex Smith (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Logan Peed (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Shane Perkins (1 run, 2 hits & 2 strikeouts thrown), Andrew Case (1 run & 1 hit), Ebon Brown (1 run), Anthony DeAnglelis (1 run & 8 strikeouts thrown), and Nevin Brown (3 strikeouts thrown). 

Game 2

Marathon was led by Colton Oram (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Camdyn Kashuba (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Zachary Birdsall (1 hit & 1 RBI), Blake Birdsall (1 hit), Barrett Trabucco (1 run & 1 hit), Tucker Trabucco (1 run & 4 strikeouts thrown), and Aydan Brown (1 run).

Union Springs was led by Jack Walters (3 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Shane Perkins (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Carter Botindari (2 runs & 2 hits), Asa Brown (1 run & 2 RBI’s), Alex Smith (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Anthony DeAnglelis (1 run, 1 hit & 7 strikeouts thrown), Ebon Brown (1 hit, 1 RBI & 1 strikeout thrown), Logan Peed (2 runs & 2 strikeouts thrown), and Andrew Case (1 run). 

Up next, Marathon will play Southern Cayuga at Marathon’s high school field on Monday (April 29th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Softball: Cortland vs. Central Square & Lansing

The Cortland Lady Tigers played a double header in the “PBR Diamond Series” against Central Square and Lansing on Thursday. 

Cortland lost their first game against Central Square 9-2, but won the second game against Lansing 12-2. 

With their results, Cortland now holds a 3-3 record.

Game 1

Cortland was led by Madalyn Thompson (1 run & 2 hits), Brenna Hogan (1 run, 1 hit, 1 RBI & 7 strikeouts thrown), Abigail Romans (1 hit), Lauren Mott (1 RBI), Madison Thompson (1 hit), and Gracie-Jo Homza (1 hit). 

Central Square was led by Payton St. Clair (3 total runs, 1 homerun, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Hannah Waldron (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Emerson Widowski (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Madelynn Griesmyer (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Natalie Bush (1 hit & 1 RBI), Savannah Staats (1 run), and Caytlin Redeye (14 strikeouts thrown). 

Game 2

Cortland was led by Madison Thompson (2 total runs, 1 homerun, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Brenna Hogan (1 run, 2 hits, 3 RBI’s & 14 strikeouts thrown), Claire Turner (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Madalyn Thompson (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Gracie-Jo Homza (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Sophie Mayer (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Abigail Romans (1 run & 1 hit), and Lauren Mott (2 runs).

Cortland is now scheduled to play on the road against Jordan-Elbridge on Saturday (April 27th) at 10am. 

Varsity Softball: Marathon vs. Tioga Senior

The Marathon Lady Olympians have fallen to an overall record of 3-8 after losing to Tioga Senior with a score of 19-1.

According to Marathon’s athletic calendar, Marathon will play a double-header on Saturday. Their first game will be against Union Springs at Union Springs high school at 10am, and their second game will be against Trumansburg at Trumansburg Central School at 4pm.
