Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Baseball: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians lost 17-7 against Southern Cayuga on Wednesday, making them fall to an overall record of 2-9. 

“We came out and competed today,” stated Marathon head coach Bryan Hoyt. “Southern Cayuga really hit the ball well and both pitchers threw well.” 

Marathon’s Blake Birdsall hit a grand slam home-run in the second inning of the game. 

Marathon was led by Blake Birdsall (1 grand slam home-run, 3 hits, 5 RBI’s & 2 strikeouts thrown), Camdyn Kashuba (1 run), Zachary Birdsall (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Tucker Trabucco (1 run & 1 hit), Daniel Merihew (1 run & 1 strikeout thrown), Aidan Courtney (1 run & 1 hit), and Nash Coleman (1 hit). 

Southern Cayuga’s runs were scored by Parker Cullen (3 runs), Isaac Brozon (2 runs), Brayden Dingy (1 run), Kyler Colton (3 runs), Benjamin Kermidas (3 runs), John Kreydatus (3 runs), Donavin White (1 run), and Austin VanOrman (1 run). Pitcher Isaac Brozon threw 9 strikeouts. 

Up next, Marathon will play Southern Cayuga at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex today (May 2nd) at 6:15pm. 

Varsity Baseball: Homer vs. Central Valley Academy (CVA)

The Homer baseball team fell to an overall record of 6-5 after losing to CVA with a score of 8-4 on Wednesday. 

Homer was led by Mitchell Earle (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Evan Sullivan (1 RBI), Tristan Allen (2 hits & 1 RBI), Graydon Hickey (1 run & 2 strikeouts thrown), Eli McMahon (1 run & 1 hit), Jacob Griffin (1 run & 1 hit), and Max Franco (2 strikeouts thrown). 

CVA was led by Braden Moreau (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Pace Ludwig (3 runs & 3 strikeouts thrown), Connor Dempsey (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Logan Judd (1 run & 1 hit), Brayden Darrow (2 RBI’s), Lincoln Lynch (1 run), Blake Yardley (2 RBI’s), and Braden Moreau (2 strikeouts thrown). 

Homer’s next game will be played against Westhill today (May 2nd) at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Baseball: Otselic Valley-Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The Otselic Valley-Cincinnatus baseball team won 8-5 against DeRuyter in order to improve to an overall record of 3-4. 

Otselic Valley-Cincinnatus was led by Avram Moses (2 runs & 2 hits), Caleb Loomis (1 run, 1 hit & 1 strikeout thrown), Hunter Rozewski (1 run & 2 hits), Lukas Schieferstein (1 run, 2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 1 strikeout thrown), Oliver Marshall (1 run), Braeden Davis (3 hits & 2 RBI’s), Deven Maxson (2 RBI’s), Cole Warren (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), and Troy Miller (1 run, 1 hit, 1 RBI & 3 strikeouts thrown).

Otselic Valley-Cincinnatus is now scheduled to host LaFargeville at Otselic Valley high school on Saturday (May 4th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Track & Field: Homer vs. Cortland & ITC

The Homer Trojans hosted a double dual meet against county rival Cortland (Purple Tigers) as well as ITC Syracuse Wednesday evening.

Varsity Softball: Cincinnatus vs. Cazenovia

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions won their third straight game on Wednesday in order to improve to an 8-2 record. Cincinnatus won their game against Cazenocia with a score of 10-7. 

Note: Official stats of the game were not made available. 

Cincinnatus' next game will be played on the road against Madison on Tuesday (May 7th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Golf: Marathon vs. Spencer Van Etten

The Marathon Olympians played against Spencer Van Etten at the Shepard Hills Golf Course Wednesday afternoon. 

With the scores all tied up at 203, Marathon won the match using their fifth score as a tiebreaker. 

Marathon’s fifth score was Bode Carter who scored a 57, while Spencer Van Etten’s fifth score was Mike Fensing who scored a 58. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).

The Cincinnatus boys golf team played DeRuyter at the Apple Creek Golf course Wednesday evening. 

Cincinnatus lost the match with a team score of 253-241. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).
