City Police: Nurses attacked and sexually abused by patient

Two nurses were “violently attacked” and “sexually abused” by a patient at the local hospital, according to a report.

The City of Cortland Police report stated that officers responded to two separate incidents, on May 5 and May 7, at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. According to the report, Francisco Rodriguez, 45, had “made threats to harm and rape” female staff members at the hospital.

The report stated that neither of the nurses attacked had suffered any serious physical injuries.

Rodriguez was arrested on Tuesday (May 7) and charged with first-degree attempted rape (a Class-C Felony), first-degree sexual abuse (a Class-D Felony), forcible touching (a Class-A Misdemeanor) and second-degree unlawful imprisonment (a Class-A Misdemeanor). 

Rodriguez was arraigned and sent to Cortland County Jail on $500,000 bail. He is due to appear in city court on May 29.
