Varsity Track & Field Results: Marathon hosts 2024 Spring Fling Meet (photos included)

The Marathon Olympians hosted their annual spring fling meet at Marathon Appleby Elementary School Wednesday evening. 

A total of 13 schools participated in the meet (Marathon, Candor, Dryden, Groton, Lansing, Moravia, Newark Valley, Oxford Academy, Southern Cayuga, Spencer Van-Etten, Union Springs, Watkins Glen, and Whitney Point). 

Here are some Marathon boys’ and girls’ team highlights from Wednesday’s meet:

Marathon Boys

  • Andrew Edsall won 1st place in the 3,200 meter run (Time - 11:02.21). He also placed 5th in the pole vault event (Result - 10’0”)
  • Colton Howe won 1st place in the triple jump event (Result - 39’5.50”)

Marathon Girls

  • Larina Cochran came in 3rd place in the 3,000 meter run (Time - 14:36.17)
  • Sophia Hansen placed 4th in the 3,000 meter run (Time - 14:36.29) and in the triple jump event (Result - 29’9”)
  • Abigail Trabucco finished in 2nd place in the pole vault event (Result - 8’6”). She also came in 3rd place in the 800 meter run (Time - 2:47.97)
  • Scout Morse placed 4th in the 400 meter run (Time - 1:10.71). She also came in 5th place in the 200 meter dash (Time - 29.88) and placed 6th in the long jump (Result - 14’1.50”)
  • Catherine Newkirk came in 4th place in the 100 meter hurdles (Time - 18.12) and the long jump event (Result - 14’2.75”)
  • Addison Oram tied for 4th place in the high jump (Result - 4’8”)
  • Aliyah Roberts placed 6th in the discus throw event (Result - 61’4”)
  • Kennedy Eaton came in 5th place in the 400 meter hurdles (Time - 1:24.92)

According to Marathon’s athletic calendar, the Olympians’ next meet will be the “Yellow Jacket Invite” at Oneonta senior high school on Friday (May 10th) at 4:30pm.
