Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:

Varsity Softball: Cortland vs. Phoenix

The Cortland softball team defeated Phoenix with a score of 21-12 on Saturday. With this win, Cortland now holds a 7-7 record. 

Cortland was led by Brenna Hogan (4 total runs, 1 home-run, 2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 17 strikeouts thrown), Abigail Romans (2 runs & 2 hits), Sophie Mayer (3 total runs, 2 home-runs, 5 hits & 6 RBI’s), Lauren Mott (3 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Claire Turner (2 runs), Gracie-Jo Homza (3 runs, 2 hits & 3 RBI’s), Ava Turner (3 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Jadyn Willey (1 RBI), and Danica Peck (1 run & 2 RBI’s).

Phoenix was led by Lily Amidon (3 hits, 5 RBI’s & 3 strikeouts thrown), Bailey Hager (3 total runs, 1 home-run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), America Figueras (2 runs & 2 hits), Maura Catanzano (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Maddie DiGiovanni (1 hit), Rose Mullin (2 runs & 1 hit), Hannah Morrison (2 run, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Gianna Ende (1 run), and Lacey Goodman (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI).

Cortland’s next game will be played on the road against Chittenango this Tuesday (May 14th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Softball: McGraw vs. Moravia

The McGraw Lady Eagles won 17-5 against Moravia in order to improve to a 7-6 record. 

McGraw was led by Remington Stull (3 runs, 2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 1 strikeout thrown), Leah Terwilliger (3 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Katelynn Millard (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Haylee Bassett (3 runs, 3 hits & 3 RBI’s), Josslyn Eaton (4 hits & 4 RBI’s), Madison Sweeney (1 run, 2 hits & 3 RBI’s), Hannah Wilson (2 runs, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Bristol Eastman (1 run & 1 hit), Camdyn Caperton (2 hits), and Abby Lakie (5 strikeouts thrown).

McGraw is scheduled to host Stockbridge Valley at Blodgett Mills today (May 13th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Softball: Cincinnatus vs. Sandy Creek & Seton Catholic (Double-Header)

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions played against Sandy Creek and Seton Catholic on Saturday. 

Cincinnatus lost with a score of 11-0 against Sandy Creek and won against Seton Catholic with a score of 5-0. 

In the game against Sandy Creek, Cincinnatus was led by Lucy Finch (2 hits), Emma Finch (1 hit), Payton Gerrard (1 hit), Madison Stover (1 hit), Neveah Billings (1 hit), and Hannah Ellerson (1 hit). 

Then in the game against Seton Catholic, Cincinnatus was led by Lucy Finch (2 hits), Emma Finch (1 hit & 1 RBI), Payton Gerrard (2 runs & 2 hits), Madison Stover (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Addison Stith (2 hits & 1 RBI), Neveah Billings (1 run, 1 hit & 8 strikeouts thrown), and Hannah Ellerson (1 run & 2 hits).

Varsity Baseball: Cortland vs. Binghamton

The Cortland Purple Tigers improved to an overall record of 12-5 after beating Binghamton on the road 14-2. 

Cortland was led by Jaheim Robinson (1 run, 2 hits & 4 RBI’s), Tyler Fitchette (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Caden Albright (2 runs & 2 hits), Zach Muir (2 runs & 2 hits), Ethan Johnson (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Mason Kurtz (2 runs & 1 RBI), Sean Rogoff (2 runs), Danny Jackson (1 run), Cal Albright (2 hits & 7 strikeouts thrown), Antonio Terrazas (1 RBI & 3 strikeouts throw), and Owen Johnson (1 hit, 1 RBI & 3 strikeouts thrown).

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. New Hartford

The Homer boys’ lacrosse defeated New Hartford in overtime with a score of 9-8, improving their overall record to 9-5. 

Homer was led by Daniel Stiles (2 goals & 4 ground balls), Alexander Votra (2 goals & 4 ground balls), Cooper Swartz (1 goal & 3 ground balls), Brycen Poole (1 goal & 2 ground balls), Mason Potter (1 goal), Liam O'Connor (3 ground balls), Wyatt Wilbur (2 goals & 2 ground balls), Anthony Cicioni (2 ground balls), Kyle Wright (2 ground balls), Jack Brady (2 ground balls), Dominic Burlingame (2 ground balls), Logan Stauber (1 ground ball), Kaden Durham (1 ground ball), Christopher Slade (1 ground ball), and Benjamin Bradshaw (3 ground balls & 19 saves).

New Hartford was led by Sawyer Kramer (3 goals & 1 assist), Landon Gentile (3 goals), Geovanni Frattasio (1 goal), and Anthony Falvo (1 goal).

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. New Hartford

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost to New Hartford with a score of 14-6. With this loss, Cortland has fallen to a 2-12 record.
