Varsity Softball: Marathon vs. Moravia (Section IV Class C Playoffs)

The No.8-seeded Marathon Lady Olympins beat the No.9-seed Moravia in the first round of the Section IV Class C playoff tournament on Thursday.

Marathon won the game with a score of 5-4.

“Forrest (Cassandra) bats in two RBI's and our speed on bases paid off tonight,” stated Marathon head coach Jamie Bush. “Marissa Allen drew a walk to start the game and stole second base on the first pitch to Kayla Wood. Wood would lay down a perfect bunt single that scored Allen as she got the jump knowing the bunt was called.”

Conklin (Izabella) drew our second walk and Mya Wyant would come in to run for her and again speed on bases led to our second run on a wild pitch,” added coach Bush. “Delaney Reilly would score in the third off two stolen bases. In the fourth, Melodie Sutton and Marissa Allen both battled to walk and stole a base. Cassie Forrest with two outs hits a deep double to score Sutton and Allen, which turned out to be the game winning runs. Izzy Conklin would go on to shut down Moravia in the seventh inning on seven pitches. Her target Haylee Chrysler in right field, caught all three fly balls to shut down the game.”
