The Homer Central School District announced some changes to start and dismissal times, which will commence during the 2024-25 school year.

According to superintendent Tom Turck, it is Homer CSD’s effort to “better coordinate” drop-off and pickup for students.

“It will allow us to increase instructional time with students and improve safety for school families each afternoon at Homer Elementary School,” Turck said.

The new, and future, start times are as follows:

  • Grades 6 through 12 – Junior High, 7:45 a.m.; Senior High, 8 a.m.
  • Pre-K through 5th grade – 8:45am for elementary and intermediate students.

The future dismissal times are as follows:

  • Grades 6 through 12 – Junior High, 2:40 p.m.; Senior High, 2:50 p.m.
  • Pre-K through 5th grade – 3:35 p.m. for elementary walkers; 3:40 p.m. for intermediate bussers and walkers; 3:50 p.m. for elementary bussers.

“At Homer Elementary, we will use the expanded parking lot and Central Park Place for the pick up of student ‘walkers’ prior to the buses arriving from Homer Intermediate,” Turck said. “We expect these changes to greatly improve traffic flow and safety of students/families at the end of the day.

Turck said the information on the changes will assist in giving “ample time” to plan for changes to morning and afternoon routines next fall. He noted that further details on the changes will be announced through the spring and summer.
