Temperatures will be on the rise today thanks to high pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coast and lower pressures throughout the Great Plains and Midwest.

This pattern will open our region to an increase in warm air from the southwest, even as surface winds today once again remain nearly calm.

After some areas of patchy fog early on, sunshine will mix with some areas of mainly thin clouds high in the atmosphere today. A few puffy fair weather clouds will also probably bubble up.

A few stray rain drops cannot be ruled out, but these will literally be limited to just a few drops.

High temperatures today will be around 80 degrees, with higher elevations just shy of 80 and lower elevations just above 80 degrees.

Thin clouds will remain in place this evening and may thicken some overnight. A south wind will also develop with speeds around 5 mph.

Evening temperatures will slowly drop back into the 60s. Overnight lows will make it to the upper 50s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Tuesday: Sun and thin clouds. Morning lows in the upper 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds. Overnight rain showers. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 80s.

Thursday: Some morning showers, then some afternoon sun. Morning lows in the low 60s.  Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Friday: Sun and a few clouds. Morning lows near 50. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.
