The No.3-seeded Homer Trojans upset No.2-seed South Jefferson in the semifinal round of the Section III Class C playoff tournament on Saturday (May 25th). Homer won the game with a score of 10-4.

South Jefferson came into the game with a total of 12 out of their last 17 games scoring in double digits. However, Homer’s strong defense held South Jefferson to only 2 goals per half.

Homer’s defensive feat forced South Jefferson to play one of their worst offensive games this season. The last time South Jefferson only scored 4 goals was in their loss against Cicero-North Syracuse in the middle of April

“I thought the boys were prepared,” said Homer head coach CJ Nye. “We had a good couple of days to get ourselves ready for a good South Jeff team and we executed the game plan very well. Defensively, we had a lot of guys step up individually. Jack Brady, Logan Stauber, and of course any time you have Ben Bradshaw between the pipes, you have a great chance to win. He (Ben Bradshaw) stepped up and made some huge saves for us to keep the momentum going our way.”

“Honestly, I am super proud of what my teammates did to prepare themselves and I am super proud of my coaches for the game plan coming into this,” stated Bradshaw. “It really wasn't hard to do my job tonight when I had great guys around doing their job.”

Homer will play the sectional championship game against No.1-seed Jamesville-Dewitt.

Jamesville-Dewitt advanced to the championship game after beating No.5-seed Carthage with a score of 15-4 on Saturday.

“When we talk and do post-season breakdowns, and season expectations, it’s alway to win a sectional championship,” stated coach Nye.

“We’ve been getting ready, taking it one game at a time, and know that the end goal is to beat J-D (Jamesville-Dewitt),” added coach Nye. “So we’re going to focus, we’re going to take these next couple of days, get ourselves ready, and try to execute here to win a sectional championship.”

According to the Section III brackets, the Class C sectional championship game is scheduled to be played at Fulton high school this Wednesday (May 29th) at 5pm.
