Cortland sophomore Tyler Cranfield competed in the first round of the New York State championship tournament at the USTA National Tennis Center, in Flushing (Queens, NY) earlier this morning (May 31st).

Cranfield qualified for the state tournament after winning the Section III Division II singles championship earlier in May

Cranfield played against Alexander Suhanitski of New Rochelle in the opening round of the state tournament.

Cranfield lost a well fought first set with a score of 6-3. He then tried to battle back with more aggressive shots in the second set, but Suhanitski’s hard serve and shots made it difficult for Cranfield to return at certain angles. He lost the second set 6-2, ending his season.
