County Democratic Committee chair steps down; future plans announced

The Cortland County Democratic Committee announced via a release that committee chair Tim Perfetti is stepping down from his position.

The release noted New York State comptroller Tom DiNapoli revealed at a recent event that Perfetti accepted a position at the state comptroller’s office, effective Thursday (June 20).

Perfetti was the County Democratic Committee chair from 2015 to this year. He was also a board member of the NYS Democratic Rural Conference since 2017, and served as the organization’s executive vice chair since 2019. Perfetti was appointed the assistant secretary of the NYS Democratic Committee in 2021.

“It is with sadness and gratitude that I must step away from something that I enjoyed doing with the people that I was surrounded by,” Perfetti said via the release. “I found working with them to be very fulfilling, but I am confident that the leadership of the county committee, along with all its members, will continue to be successful. They are some of the most talented individuals I have ever had the pleasure of working with.”

Rebecca Bryan, the county democratic committee’s vice chair, will assume the role of chair. 

“She is an incredibly talented person who will not only keep the committee on track but also brings a skill set of organizational leadership that I am sure will grow and improve many aspects of the organization,” Perfetti said.

According to the release, background on Rebecca Bryan is as follows:

“Known to many as Bekkie, Rebecca Bryan is an associate professor and department chair of

the physical education department at SUNY Cortland, the largest department on campus. 

She is also a union leader, serving on the United University Professions (UUP) Statewide Executive Board and the Teacher Education Committee. Bryan also co-chairs UUP’s Outreach Committee, the union’s advocacy arm. 

Originally from California, Bryan chose Cortland as her home and community and is dedicated to fighting for others, especially the most vulnerable. Bryan and her partner – Village of Homer mayor Hal McCabe – are avid campers, dog lovers (Rambler and Seneca) and supporters of Cortland’s local food and agriculture scene.”
