The City of Cortland Police Department is investigating an assault that occurred on Main Street early Wednesday morning.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed, the sheriff's office said.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported assault that occurred at a home in the village of McGraw.

An inmate at the Cortland County Jail was charged with assault after he reportedly struck a corrections officer.

The assault occurred in a remote area in the town of Preble, authorities said.

On Saturday, troopers responded to a 911 report of two women fighting at a home on Keeney Road in the town of Cuyler.

An investigation determined that a group of five to six individuals assaulted the student in the residence hall and stole several items, police said.
