Ithaca man arrested after short chase through Cortlandville

CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. – An Ithaca man who fled a police officer on his motorcycle was arrested Tuesday after a short chase through Cortland County, according to state police.

At around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, a state trooper observed a 2004 Honda motorcycle being driven with an expired registration.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, at which point the man fled, according to police.

After a short chase, 21-year-old Benjamin E. Neilsen was located and arrested on Route 38 in Cortlandville. Police say he had a small amount of cocaine and was driving with a suspended driver's license.

Neilsen was charged with reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a controlled substance, along with numerous other vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court and taken to Cortland County jail on $5,000 cash bail.
