Cortland man accused in Ithaca bank robbery

Ithaca, N.Y. — A Cortland man has been arrested after robbing the Elmira Savings Banks near the Commons on Wednesday, according to the Ithaca Police Department.

Ian Miles, 28, was arrested on the 200 block of South Cayuga Street Friday afternoon.

Police say Miles has been charged on one count of third-degree robbery, a felony. He has been arraigned in Ithaca City Court.

Miles was sent to jail on bail of $15,000 in cash or $30,000 bond.

Authorities have said Miles entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding cash “or else people would be hurt,” according to an Ithaca police press release. The teller turned over an undisclosed amount of cash.
